MR4 for Symantec AV Corp and Symantec CLient Security is out now, at least for Platinum support customers. This brings the most current version to 10.1.4.4000 as per this incredibly ugly link: http://symantec.atgnow.com/... ......

Been a little slow in getting started this week. Spent a good deal of yesterday migrating the 'ol admin workstation to new hardware and taking the old hardware and getting it ready for deployment to an upcoming new user. Other than that, one of the printers deployed last week is having a small issue. Not so much the printer as the printer software. ......

Noticed two issues late yesterday and am in the middle of fixing them today. Both have to do with our new intranet site (sigh!). The first is that the part that linked to our internal document management which displays files through a browser plugin wasn't displaying properly on some systems. Found that in Joomla this section was set to automatically ......

Sorry about the disappearing act, but got a little buried. Several last minute hirings and a high-end termination will do that for you. I did manage to get a few things done in the interim though. With our new Intranet, I found a solution to issues I was experiencing with the Forum portion. I uninstalled the forum, blew away the appropriate tables in ......

Got all of my workstations and servers patched up this morning. Just a small handful of laptops didn't, because the users forgot to choose “install and shut down” at the end of the day. Our main line of business application freaked out this morning due to a patch for the program that the vendor installed (unrelated to the MS patches from ......

Today is Microsoft patch day. My general way of doing things on this day is as follows: 1) Sync my WSUS server to get all of the appropriate patches. 2) While that is happening, review the KB articles to see what is going to change which gives me a ballpark idea of possible patch side effects with the line-of-business apps we have installed. 3) Notify ......

Sitting here wishing I was at TechEd in Boston. Instead I'm working on moving our new company Intranet site from a test machine to the server it will live out its' days on. Hit a few bugs after the move and trying to solve them before taking this new site “live“. Originally built using the PHP framework called Mambo, it has since been migrated ......

I must admit that I actually dread Fridays. The first reason why is that it is our company meeting day. Normally I suffer through one to three hours of meetings where nothing of consequence ever gets said and god forbid there be any decisions made. The second reason is the nasty habit of people letting me know about some user issue they've been having ......

This is going to be a big one. “At approximately 10:00 am PT next Tuesday, June 11th 2006, we are planning to release a total of twelve security bulletins. The breakdown of these are: · Nine security bulletins for Microsoft Windows, the highest maximum severity rating for these is “critical.” · One security bulletin affecting ......

There are quite a few places which I refer to everyday to pick up some quick tips. I'll begin adding them to the link list here. Between these sources, a massive amount of data comes my way. The best tool which I've found to deal with it all is through RSS. Using this technology you can get timely updates on what and who is happening. If I find a good ......

Here we are, my first blog post. First a brief history. My name is Scott Klassen and I am a system administrator at a mid-sized law firm. Although I had muddled about with trash-80s, Apple-IIs, C-64s, original MACs, etc at varying stages of my youth, I didn't actually own my very own computer until 1995. I got myself a brand-spanking new PC from Pacard-Bell. ......
