Error occurred in deployment step Add Solution: Value does not fall within the expected range
A SharePoint 2010 solution I was working on contained several different types projects (MasterPage, ContentTypes, EventReceivers). At one point, I started getting this error: “Error occurred in deployment step Add Solution: Value does not fall within the expected range.” By unloading projects I narrowed it down to my ContentType provisioning/feature. The ID of the content type had a typo. While googling for this error, there wasn’t an exact match for my typo, rather it was the method to isolate the ......

SharePoint WebPart Life-Cycle Events and Event Sequence
I just came across a strange issue with 'Connected Webparts' where in the parameter/value being passed to the user webpart was being defaulted to the first value/initial set up value. So for instance it is the user id being passed through a custom webpart to a report viewer. So what was happening was that the user id was always set/defaulted to the user-id of the user who added the webpart. On more reading and researching I found out that it was due to the order of events. I was using the createchildcontrols ......

Free Document/Content Management System Using SharePoint 2010
That’s right, it’s true. You can use the free version of SharePoint 2010 to meet your document and content management needs and even run your public facing website or an internal knowledge bank. SharePoint Foundation 2010 is free. It may not have all the features that you get in the enterprise license but it still has enough to cater to your needs to build a document management system and replace age old file shares or folders. I’ve built a dozen content management sites for internal and public use ......

jQuery with SharePoint solutions
For me jQuery is the 'Plan-B' for everything. And most of my projects include the use of jQuery for something or the other, so I decided to write a small note on what works best while using jQuery along with SharePoint.I prefer to use the jQuery JavaScript library, which is far more robust, easier to use, and allows for plugins. Follow the steps below to add jQuery to your master page. For office 365, the prefered location to add jQuery files is the "Site Asserts" library.Deployment Best PracticesThey ......
