I am considering opening an account with Webhost4life.com. Does anyone have any experience with them? Anyone have any other advice? I need a good Windows hosting company where I can be use ASPNET apps like DNN or dasBlog without any issues.

Update: I did go with Webhost4life, and they were great at the beginning.  Their support was friendly and helpful, and my site was fast.  That was then, this is now.  It seems in this short time, they have gone to absolute crap.  Their support appears to be all non-technical people in India.  After 3 or 4 days if your support issue is still open they will get an "engineer" on it (that is, apparently, someone who actually knows what ASP.Net is).  I am now receiving the worst service I have ever received from ANY webhost over the years.  I would never recommend Webhost4life for anyone, in fact I would strongly warn you against it.

Webhost4life was the biggest web hosting mistake I have made.  So much so that I am still prepaid through a couple more months, but I am moving now anyway.

I've had nothing but great experience with them, for over 3 years now. They have responded quickly and well the few times I needed, and they've kept me up and running nicely. That said, I have seen a few complaints from others, but in my experience (I tried several other hosters before them) there is no one that is always perfect (even some of the far more expensive and well-known hosts have issues). So for what you pay (and more), I highly recommend them.

Been using them for my site for last 2 years, and got second IP for friends site and I haven't noticed any downtime in that time frame.

Plus the unlimited bandwidth is always a good thing.

I used to say the same things as Paul and Justin, but I have changed my mind about WebHosting4Life. As long as you do not have a popular site, they are great. But once you start to pull in some visitors, things change. I have about 2000 unique visitors a day and do about 4GB in bandwidth a month (mostly compressed RSS) and they just shut down my site without any warning stating that my site was using 100% of the Machine it was on. After I explained that I was only using .Text, they brought my site back up, and then said they would move the site to a new box (the one I was on was an old one, since I have been with them almost 3 years now). Then, the guys at CodeBetter.com had the same problem, but were told to find another provider (WH4L just shut them down, with no warning). So, unlimited bandwidth is very misleading, because they do not let you stream any media (mp3, wmv, etc), and don't want you using much CPU time, so that is how they limit your bandwidth. My contract is up with them in Sept. and I'm looking for another host. WH4L was great for a while, but like all good things, it doesn't last.

The two times when I ran into performance/downtime problems, I submitted a trouble ticket and they moved me to a new server, and everything was fine. Also gave me a free month of hosting. Tech support has always been very quick.
HOWEVER, my one compaint is that they sneak in a $10 "renewal fee" on top of hosting charges when you renew. Maybe this was mentioned somewhere when I signed up (but I don't remember seeing it), but I cannot find any mention of a renewal fee in any of their online materials or terms & conditions.

I switched to WH4L in January because I wanted a Windows-based site and WH4L was recommended. Well, their own web site it terrible. For example, they refer to a "Control Panel", yet you never get to any page by that name. The software they have for uploading files would not run on my machine. I have 4 domain names for different hobbies. Not until after I paid and got set up did I find out that I could not aim my 4 domain names at different folders without paying more. (My prior host did not charge.) Then I tried to transfer a domain name to WH4L. They charged my credit card over 2 weeks ago, but still have not transferred it. On their Help page, they list an 800# to call for Help, but when I call that number, they say they can only provide help for hosting, not for domain names, yet the 800# is shown on the domain name help page. When I call the 480#, I can never get through to anyone. When I emailed them, they did not respond.

I saw where someone else warned about getting blindsided with a $10 "renewal" fee. At least I won't have to worry about that. I won't renew.

Do NOT go near this provider - despite stating that email is included as are multiple domains the truth is that only the first domain is free for email and all other domains can only be attached at root level. If you want to attach at subdirectory then a charge of $15yr is made. They are completely unwilling to state what else will be charged for.

I have very good experience so far with webhost4life. The reason I went with them was their customer testimonials at http://webhost4life.com/testimonial.asp

I havn't see any other host with these kind of testimonial on a daily basis.

Lucky enough, I did got the same excellent service from them.

As far as the $15 fee, I got the info upfront from their sales, so that didn't bother me much.

I have benn VERY happy with them, specially the repsonsiveness of their support.
The control panel IS clear and easy to use. It had some bugs but if you submit a ticket, you usually get answers in the next 2-4 hours.
I had such TERRIBLE experiences but other providers before, I am quite happy with these.
Plus, I had the feeling to get more than I thought, because I realized I could also setup a Sharepoint without additional fee.

Before I was with SeekDotNet, and I had to wait 48 hours (+ angry emails) before getting any answers.

I've used these guys for about 5 years nows with about 6 different accounts. Can't say I have ever had any real problems. In fact, they dealt with requests for the install of specialist com objects on my basic account very well.

I think for what you pay, you get an awful lot. But if u are going to have a site that will get alot of bandwidth.... you NEED to get dedicated hosting.

I have had nothing but issues with them. Their technical staff does not understand how to respond to direct questions.

I upgraded to their Advanced plan with a Dual P4 3.0GHz Xeon with 6GB RAM and they put me on an AMD 3200 with 1/2 GB RAM without telling me, yet charging me the same money.

My server has been down at least 6 hours today as well, and is not back up yet. Adwords? Yup, lost a lot of money there too!

Stay as far away from them as you can...utterly useless.

You can't even host anything on a 1/2gig of ram and I don't see anywhere on webhost4life advertising 6gig of ram.

Yes I am a big fan of Webhost4life and I have many sites with them and I am very satisfy.
I just want to point out that it wouldn't make any sense for webhost4life to put up a 1/2 gig machine when they can put 4 to 6 gig and host much much more sites.

Webhost4life is there everytime I needed support. I would definately recommand them.

I have been on WH4L for about 2 years, and while the started out OK, they are now horrible.

If you need a database to back end your site DO NOT use these guys. I was running the content management system Joomla which back ended on to a MySQL DB and this would frequently time out due to simple queries taking in excess of 30 seconds to execute, and this was off a vanilla install. After spending over 2 weeks going back and forth between support, being shifted between different app-pools and still getting no where I had had enough..

They might be fine for a plain html site, but anything more complex than that, run away.

Other pet peeves.
+Hidden fees everywhere

I was with a different host for 4 years and they suddenly went belly up on me. I had to scramble to find a new host fast and WH4L was recommended. I have used them for 10 months and have been very happy, until I went to renew today and found out about that $10 a year renewal fee adder. That really stinks to me. It is not the money so much as it is an unetical way to add money to the price. You will note they do not even mention it when showing you the $5.95 a month rate. Poor business pratice. But, I will stay with them as I doubt I can do any better elsewhere. What liffle tech support I have needed was fast, accurate, and courteous. I am a very basic user with nothing fancy on my web site.

I cannot imagine service being worse than the one webhost4life provides: they don't monitor the websites - they don't know whether your website is up or down, as they have no software to monitor it; they don't know whether their server is up to the capacity or not - they have no way to monitor it. So you can imagine how "smoothly" you website runs on their server....

I also have over 3 years experience with WH4L, and I must agree with Ashley. It does appear that their level of service has degraded over the past year or so. After some not-so-scientific testing, I believe that the problem lies on their database servers (which I guess can be expected when they offer 2 free SQL, mySQL & SQL express database to each customer). They recently (2/19/08) sent a message that they would no longer be supporting SQL Express after March 19th, so maybe service will improve in the near future. Here's the text of the message they sent:

"After extensive research and monitoring, it has been determined that the resource used by SQL express engine causes a dramatic performance decrease for the server. Futhermore, it creates security issues for the server. Unfortunately, we are forced to discontinue support for SQL Express database engine on
March 19, 2008. For all customers using SQL Express engine, please move your database to a SQL 2005 environment. The easiest way is to use "attach" function through the "control panel -> database -> mssql admin" section to attach your .mdf and .ldf file. If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact our help desk support staff. Thank you."

I'll be sticking around a little longer to see if things improve (fingers crossed), but if they do not, I guess I too will be in the market for a new hosting provider...

I have had horrible experience with webhost4life. Actually no one at the staff that reads the support tickets actually understands what I say. After hosting for 3 years there, the service quality has deteriorated (very slow loading speed) and I waste lots of time re-submitting information on tickets that i had already thoroughly explained. Our company is moving all sites for clients out of webhost4life and I am actively telling all my tech contacts to stay away from that company. It is inefficient, low quality, and in the end we end up paying more with our time and nerves than we save by cheaper hosting. Cheap is expensive!

I have done a fair amount of research on hosting providers since I run about a dozen sites for my family and numerous small businesses that I provide consulting services for. Currently the host that I use across the board is Webhost4Life.com and I have found them to provide the best value for the money with excellent technical support.

I use and recommend their intermediate plan which is only $10 per month and it includes full email hosting for up to 100 accounts, web-based email, advanced anti-spam services, and lots of control panel features for the admin to determine how the email will be used. You probably won't use their other services based on your question but they also include a ton of other features for free with this account including 2 GB of web hosting space, Microsoft SharePoint tool for creating dynamic professional websites, FTP, database support, etc.

For technical support they have several options which I have used frequently and they all work great. The primary method is an online help desk where you can read KB articles, post questions in a forum, and log tickets for the technical support staff. I have logged close to a hundred tickets over the past 2 years and their average response time is about 6 hours to first response with most tickets being fully resolved and closed within 24-48 hours. In cases where you need immediate support you can flag your ticket as Priority 1, or you can use a special "Live Sales Support" link on their home page which opens a live chat window with their tech support reps.

I am not sure if they provide live technical support via phone since I never needed to use anything other than their help desk system. They do count on you to understand the basic technical issues so they may not be the best choice for someone that only has an end user perspective with no knowledge of how to setup new email accounts and set the initial account options.

If you want more detail just let me know. If you do decide to signup with them then I would appreciate you using this referral link:

http://www.WebHost4Life.com/default.asp?refid=raymondlimw

Once you have an account with them they give you a small credit for each referral you make and since I recommend them often this eventually adds up. You can do the same once you are setup with their service.

Also, if spam has been an irritation for your users then I would highly recommend using the service below in conjunction with Webhost4life.com. I am pasting in the content of an email that I just sent to my family, friends, and business contacts about it. Hope this helps.

I'm a customer of WHFL for yuears. Basic plan. I read about all complains, when I started search about trustabillity in general. I never had serious problems with them. From time to time they loose my statistics (a very important tool for me), and as an excuse I had "you have a basic plan, you can't expect high plans' performance", which is unexpectable. Apart of that, they are mostly kind and helpful. Downtime is not too long, but in IT issues we can't have perfection. At least there is not such thing, anyway. In many cases they solved problems on time, but just for a few of them, I had to wait for a week (!).
I would recommend them highly, appart one very important thing: I don't even use email very often, and definitely I'm not a spammer. But from time to time, mail servers consider my mail as spam (mail server issue), which is something realy dangerous for business sites. Plus, I noticed today that Google doesn't rank them.
My opinion is yes, trust them, but have on mind that you should checked every aspect will come up, and of course to be ready for an alternative. (The last thing will make them better, for our mutual interestes.) So, once more, YES but with wide open eyes!

My hosting Plan: Advance Hosting Plan - Turbo Charged - Windows Server 2008

I decided to migrate all my sites (about 20) in October 2009, after having done intensive testing that left me satisfied.
The migration process (wich cost me $249,75 via Live Chat) was terrible. The migration team was asking all the time for basic instructions that we already inform in their primary form.
Support does not read the tickets properly and sometimes suggest different solutions in the same ticket.
The site presents the CEO e-mail contact in a prominent place. It is a farce since I sent him several e-mails without any response.
A month ago my portals began to fall due to lack of space in SQL. According to the Live Chat I had already exceeded the size limit, which was 1 GB. So, they told me to buy more 300 MB, which would cost me $90 per year. After asking repeatedly to the Helpdesk which was my limit of space they finally said it was 2GB. In other words, I didn't have to buy extra space of 300 MB because I had room for more 700 MB in the SQL. Ridiculous, not to call something worse.
Over time the performance was allways falling. Yesterday, I received more than 200 alerts of down time (Error Type: 503 Service Unavailable).
The responses of support ranging from a simple "after we realized tests we conclude that it's all okay" to "sorry for the inconvenience" or "we put your site on a dedicated server" which was clearly a lie, because I found that it was hosted on a server with more 150 other sites. When I showed the list of my IP neighbors they did not respond.
Currently I am in a panic because they do not inspire any confidence and I'm having terrible problems with my clients.
Moral: if you want to go bankrupt host your sites in Webhost4life.

webhost4life.com is a waste. I have over 48 hours with a problem and they can not fix. and support just say it is seeing a specialist

My 20 sites have been shut down , I can not see my sql server, for the last 7 days, I have been on the help desk chat with them. Everytime, they see that the specialists are checking it up.

Lost a great deal of money, there are many others like me, I have been asking them to move me to their old servers, so that I can get some time to move my sites to another hosting. Apparently webhost4life has been bought by a new company, and they have moved the sites to the new servers.

Currently the service provided by webhost4life is terrible. I am using their service since 2002. They just migrate my site to their so-called new platform? And I can't use the service provided by them named "ecom wizard", I live chat, open ticket with them for a lot of time. Finally, thing is resolved after a month. And the answer is, Webhost4life no more support this service. Fantastic?! Having one month downtime and problem cannot be resolved..... and recently I found the downtime on the site is very serious. I am considering to change to new host too.

Their migration destroyed my business. I have my online store www.veryhandbags.com hosted with us and two weeks ago they started moving it to their new platform but nothing worked after the move so I changed another hosting provider.

webhost4life is crap!!!!!!!!! Run away!!!
webhost4life sucks. They are crap. I had 2 advanced accounts with them for 3-4 years. I hadn't big problems at the beginning. This year (2010) they transformed the entire company. I can't say how many problems I had. Run away from them. Sometimes you have a little problem, you call the support service and if you are lucky you find a complete idiot that makes your little problem a fucking big one messing everything...
