If you’re doing SharePoint development that requires accessing and modifying SharePoint over HTTP, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the RPC protocol (HTTP posts) used there.

Unfortunately its not the greatest thing in the world, but it gets the job done I suppose.

Here’s a hard to find but very useful MSDN resource:  FrontPage Server Extensions RPC Protocol.
