Recently I purchased 3 large volumes on using the Unreal 3 Engine to create levels and custom games. This past weekend I cracked the spine of the first and started reading. Here are my early impressions (I'm ~250 pages into it, with appendices it's about 900). Pros Interestingly, the book starts with an overview of the Unreal engines leading up to Unreal 3 (including Gears of War) and follows with some discussion on planning a mod and what goes into the game development process. This is nice for ...
INTRODUCTION If you are a SharePoint developer you know that there are two basic ways to develop against SharePoint. 1) The object Model 2) Web services. SharePoint object model has the advantage of being quite rich. Anything you can do through the SharePoint UI as an administrator or end user, you can do through the object model. In fact everything that is done through the UI is done through the object model behind the scenes. The major disadvantage to getting at SharePoint this way is that the ...

I've almost finished my first Umbraco project, which is probably the most awesome CMS I've ever seen. In case you've been under a rock (which, after having rooted around this thing, I am starting to feel like), Umbraco is a brilliant, ingenious, pure-XML-powered .NET CMS - sorry to say, but much better than DotNetNuke, and fully validates with XHTML 1.1 due to it's XML nature. Go is mostly in the C family (basic syntax), with significant input from the Pascal/Modula/Oberon family (declarations, packages), ...

Commerce Server 2009 was the single biggest upgrade to the Microsoft e-commerce platform in nearly 10 years. A large proportion of the changes are the introduction of a single API covering the multiple business logic implementations required within an e-Commerce site. In former releases business concepts such as inventory, catalogue, order management, user profiling, and marketing had each been separated into their own domain logic and thus each had a unique API which made it difficult for new developers ...
