Yes I did, and it was the Hardware guys who told me to do it.

Actually the reason for this need to wash the Motherboard was because I live close to the blasted sea. My place (actually family home) overlooks the Indian Ocean . While this might be mighty awesome from the scenic angle, it is bloody awful for me. Over the past month I found a great buildup of salt on my mother board and VGA card, I didn’t too much notice of it since the PC was working OK. I just gave it a good wipe and continued. But somewhere around this Saturday it failed on me. It’s was a good board too, an Asus V600.

What the Hardware guys told me to do was give it a good wash (yes with water) to get rid of the salt, and let it dry for a couple of days or more and then try it.

So I washed it yesterday. Now its just left there to dry in the sun after I gave it a thorough, vigorous drying myself.

i washed my motherboard with running water flowing out from tap and i partly closed the tap hole to speed up the water stream. after washing MB, i placed it at under a 60W lighting normal electric bulb for few hours. after that the water drops on MB and fluid inside the parts of MB are got wet slowly. while this process i turned MB to both sides at a sometime

I washed a few motherboards and they all worked fine, after washing it I use a blower to blow all the water from the board this also clears out the water under the cips, leave it for a hour then blow it again, then leave it for a day or two, when you build your mobo into your tower make sure that you replace all the parts that had thermal paste on with new thermal paste, then your good to go

i have lived near the beach once and i had the same problem wash it with alcohol next time and even this time i dont think water is good for the computer and close all the doors and windows when the computer is running it will minimise the salt buildup and cover your computer when not using.
