Google today officially released their latest version of the Android OS - 2.3, Gingerbread. It won't hit a phone (the Nexus S) until 12/16, but developers can start working with it today.

Some of the new features include:

  • Enhancements for game development
  • Rich multimedia
  • New forms of communication
  • Simplified debug builds
  • Integrated ProGuard support
  • HierarchyViewer improvements
  • Preview of new UI Builder
