This is from Boortz, yesterday (emphasis mine):

His name was Gregory Boyington.  Some called him "Pappy."  He served as a combat pilot in World War II with the 1st Squadron, American Volunteer Group.  This squadron was known as the Flying Tigers of China.  Boyington later served as a combat pilot for the U.S. Marine Corps.  He commanded Marine Fighting Squadron 214.  Perhaps you've heard of this squadron.  It was called the Black Sheep Squadron and was later featured in a TV series called "Baa Baa, Black Sheep."  Boyington shot down 26 Japanese aircraft while serving in the Pacific.  He was later shot down and spent 20 months in a Japanese POW camp.  For those of you who aren't up to par on World War II history, Japanese POW camps were not happy places.  Torture .. .and we mean real torture, not stripping them naked and taking snapshots.  After the war Pappy Boyington was awarded the Navy Cross and the Medal of Honor.  He died in 1988.  You can visit his grave in Arlington National Cemetery.

Education?  Oh yes!  Almost forgot!  Pappy Boyington was a graduate of the University of Washington.  Just recently the idea of erecting a memorial to this Medal of Honor winner at the University of Washington made its way to the student senate.  Here you have an alumnus who served in World War II. was captured and held, and was later awarded the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross.  Perhaps some sort of monument would be a good idea!

Well .. not to Jill Edwards.  Thanks to the folks at WorldNetDaily we can show you a copy of the minutes of a meeting of the student senate at the University of Washington.  Under old business there was a discussion of a resolution calling for a tribute to Pappy Boyington.  Student senate member Jill Edwards immediately moved to table the resolution.  She wanted other issues to be considered.  Another member said that the issue was at the top of the agenda and should be dealt with.  Jill's motion failed, but she wasn't through.  There was then some discussion on why Andrew Everett, another student senate member, wanted the memorial.  Everett responded that Colonel Boyington "had many of the qualities the University of Washington hoped to produce in its students."  Well, I guess that might be true, if leadership and courage are considered to be good qualities.  Anyway ... that's when Jill Edwards spoke up and showed her true colors.  She questioned whether it was appropriate to honor a person who killed other people.  Then the lovely Jill Edwards said that a member of the Marine Corps was not an example of the sort of person the University of Washington wanted to produce.

A member of the Marine Corps was not an example of the sort of person the University of Washington wanted to produce.  A member of the Marine Corps?  Because the UW wants to produce people who don’t respect duty, honor, and country??  Who IS an exmple of the sort of person UW wants to produce?

Ye Gods, I don’t even think Michael Moore would spew this sort of crap.

UPDATE:  Jill, wherever you are, please watch this video.

Jill Edwards is a merit Scholar. That orgization is now suspect. Sad part of this story is these scum bags can vote. They don't pay taxes they don't serve in the military...but they can vote. I pray a monument is not built on the campus of the University of Washington. It would be like building it in the Soviet Union.

Strange. I missed that point. Thanks for pointing it out. I was a merit scholar myself, though, so I hope that means that there's still hope for some of us.

Poor dumb Marines, all they are good for is bleeding and dying for their country. Shame they can't be real men and throw a kegger at good ole U of W.

Jill Edwards must be the happiest person in the world. She is living proof that ignorance is bliss! Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach...mathmatics.

G. Walthers,
Pardon me, but I'm confused. Who hasn't given anything back? The commenters here or Ms. Edwards?

I admit that I've given very little back, but then I don't pretend to have. I know who I owe for my freedoms and I thank them every chance I get.

And I try to give back what I can, when I can. I certainly don't put down those who have sacrificed far more than I.

I am a former U.S. Marine. I' m proud of my service and grateful for the service of those that proceeded me and so proud of those serving now. I'm deeply sorry Jill Edwards is unable to grasp the significance of the committment by those, together with their families, that "choose" protect us everyday.

I am a MEDEVAC pilot. I'm in Iraq for my second tour. Ms. Edwards has chosen to be a sheep. Our society needs sheep. As a soldier, I forgive her for her ignorance. Perhaps someday she will learn to appreciate the sacrifices that we sheepdogs make.

I wonder if Jill has ever met a Marine? Obviously not. Maybe one day she will be able to appreciate what it means to give your life for other people. She does not have a clue what life is about. But life has a way of remedying that.

What was this lady thinking of? She needs to stand a watch or support a cause for something that puts her at risk. She needs to understand that any war is not fun and people do not kill people because they enjoy it. This is real life and she needs to grow up and under stand what Brett Dula said to her. As for me I am not a sheep, and do what it takes to keep America free.

Someone should spank this spoiled little tart. If I were her parents, I'd probably want to crawl up my own butt and die.

Thank God for Marines. Semper Fi sheepdogs!!

Drop this bitch's butt into southern Lebanon and see how fast she begins to appreciate what our armed services have done for this country. These liberal scum have to remember that they would not have free speech if we lost the last WW.

God bless the Marines and the US of A!

Jill Edwards isn't the only idiot in the meeting. Quoting from the minutes: " Ashley Miller commented that many monuments at UW1 commemorate rich white men." I guess race and finances are the only criteria for her.

Charles Grinnel gave a talk on the wolves, sheep and sheep dogs of the world. Wolves are the bad guy, sheep are the docile head in the sand eople and the guard dog is the marine, policemand or solder. standing between the sheep and the wolves of the world. Sheep never want theguard dogs until they get in trouble. If there was ever a rightous war fought by America it was WWII. Jill has no concept of the wolf-sheep-guard dog relationship among people. She is definitly a sheep.

Jill,

Don't be so quick to pass judgement on anyone in the military until you have walked in their boots. If it were not for our brave military, even going back to the Revolutionary War, we would not be free and we would probably not be speaking English. Plan on saying something about our troups who are bravely serving in Iraq, too? Judge and ye shall be judged.

As a veteran and an alumni of another PAC-10 school, Ms. Edwards is an embarassment to higher education. Enough has been said herein that I do not need to reiterate her ignorance of the United States role models throughout history. I will add that I am 100% positive that if "Pappy" needs a place to be honored, the University of Arizona will happily accept and properly place his statue. How about right next to our memorial of the USS Arizona? Sound appropriate?

This lady and the U of W would not be in existance if not for our soldiers who fight for our freedom. Maybe she should visit other countries where woman have no rights and maybe she would kiss our soldiers boots. Is this the same university that wanted or did put up a monument to the draft dodgers?

If she doesn't think monuments to people who killed other people, should we tear down statues of Washington? Or of Lincoln - who caused the deaths of 600,000 Americans? Or even the pacifist Woodrow Wilson who brought the US into WWI? She is an idiot.

Ms. Edwards,

As you can see you have many different opinions from many different civilians and soliders. I currently serve active duty in the United States Coast Guard and have been for the past 7 years. I can tell you that many people have chosen the path to serve there country while others stay back and enjoy their freedoms...and I am sure that not alot of them take it for granted. But just as I stand a watch to protect the borders of our country so you may sleep soundly at night in your soft little bed and not have to be worried about being dragged out in the middle of the night and raped or tortured or even killed without any hope of someone coming to help you, I can't even imagine what a marine must endure when they sacrafice time away from their families and sometimes pay the ultimate sacrifice and then have their memory torn down and spit on by the very person they provided this freedom to just so that you can recieve credit or recognition for expressing your thoughts differently from everyone else. If we all had the attitude you do towards our freedom fighters then this country would surely parish.
