Kind of makes you wonder how many abstraction layers will be added to .NET in the next few years. Now we have the OS, .NET 2.0, and the additions in .NET 3.0 (WPF, WF, WCF). On top, one could add security and validation layers and others. On the bottom work is being done to abstract away the intrinsics of database access. As WCF, messaging, and WS-* take off, the abstractions get really cool. Perhaps your “database” is just some service hosted by Amazon and your “file system” is some service hosted by Google. Fun stuff...
