Gears of War = Ghost Recon-Advanced Warfigthter meets Halo...but not in a good way?

Cliff Bleszinski was just on G4's E3 coverage showing off Gears of War, a game that I was really looking forward to...until now.

It's not that the game looks bad (it looks amazing!), and its not that I'm saying that you shouldn't check it out...but for me, I know I won't like it for one main reason: its not Halo 2.

Here's what I mean: I'm not a great first person shooter player to begin with. Give me a good RPG or action/adventure game, and I'm money. But when it comes to FPS, I need more Doom the Movie than Full Metal Jacket. I like playing a game where the controls are easy, the gameplay is fast, and the goal is to just shoot things...like Halo 2. However, Ghost Recon AW relies too much on being sneaky and team control for my taste (lots of others enjoy it, so I'm not saying its bad...just not my cup of tea). From what Cliff said, Gears of War is going to be along the same line...no jumping, emphasis on cover, etc. Ho hum. Part of being heroic is running into a fight guns blazing...not being “tactical”...but again, IMO.

I guess I'm still waiting for the killer game to come along for my 360. Sigh.

Buddy at work just showed me a clip of BattleField 2142. All in game footage that looks like it's going to eat Halo 3 for breakfast. I'll see if I can find a link for it. 5/15/2006 6:26 AM | Jason Row
