Edgardo Vega's Blog Making it through the day one post at a time

If you would like to install an add-on to your Windows XP installation you will be forced to verify that your copy of Windows is genuine. Check out the full story here.

The thing I find interesting most interesting is that if you are found to have a pirated copy you will have the option to pay for a licensed copy, $99 for Windows XP Home and $149 for Windows XP Pro. Doing a quick check over at Amazon shows, $189.99 for Windows XP Home and $249.99 for Windows XP Pro. So why should I actually buy the product first?

From now on I will make sure to get a pirated copy first, in order to save myself $100. You get a $100 rebate for being a pirate. I wonder if I walked into Best Buy with an eye patch, if they can give me the same deal. This system is actually encouraging piracy. What kind of craziness is that.

Shouldn't Microsoft not punish us for being honest.

David, learn how to read. I am not saying I am a pirate. I am saying that Microsoft is punishing me and everyone else who is honest (aka buys a license of Windows).

You obviously don't understand sarcasm and the frustration I am feeling at the fact that someone who pirates Windows gets a $100 discount compare to someone who is honest.

I am pointing out that this is the kind of behavior Microsoft is encouraging.

I don't see how this is a bad thing. It'll be business as usual for the most part. People with valid copies will have a pretty much transparent check. The pirates will figure out how to crack it and life will go on. I don't really see what the big deal it.

Windows...3.1,95,98,2000,ME,xp,xppro...Longhorn and Vista.....Damn! Microsoft deserves to be hacked to death... Rediculus!
These operating systems are so weak with security. The number of "patches" is endless.
Hack it....Crack it.... Play with it and in the end... Go over to Linux where the idea is to keep operating software free. Free to be used by anyone and to help advance technology without becoming billionaires that have crap to offer.
