At TechEd 2006, I was quite impressed with the new SQL Server Everywhere. I am not sure why ‘Everywhere’, but I guess just because this program is so dang easy to install, that you will just start using it in all of your applications – therefore it will get installed ‘everywhere’.

SQL Everywhere was formally called SQL Server Mobile and has been expanded to now run on the desktop. Rather excited about it myself as we are going to use it as a local store in our new smart client application that we are building and this will mean that there won’t need to be an install as there would have been with SQL Server Express.

SQL Everywhere supports some nice features including a 4GB potential store size. It is free to download and distribute with your applications and is simply a matter of including some DLLs in your project to include the database! WOWzer!
