Who should be held liable for security flaws?
Howard Schmidt, the former White House cybersecurity adviser says sue the programmer. Thanks Howard – sue the person with the least ability to control the situation. Counterpane Internet Security CTO Bruce Schneier says sue the company because somebody is liable and he says let’s leave it up to the courts to figure it out. These are bad ideas. I went to a presentation on Microsoft’s next set of language extensions (C# 3.0 and VB 9) called LINQ – Language INtegrated Query. It will give the developer the ability to write C#/VB code that does data (not just database) manipulation within the application with a SQL-like syntax.
