My attention was just brought to the Partner Pack from Microsoft. It appears as though it is a free download and all that your family members or friends have to do is hit Windows Update to ensure their machine is up-to-date. The coolest part about it is, from what I can tell, it comes with eTrust from Computer Associates, and a free year of updates as well (and of course there are a couple more free games and such :P).

I personally think this is another good step for Microsoft. First the push with /secure and now the push with this including free anti-virus software. Check it out and tell all your family members about it:

I keep telling my family to read my blog (where I, too, blogged about the Partner Pack). Their response?

"What's a blog?"

I show them. They go, "Oh". Then they click on another web page that installs more spyware in their machine. Then they call me and say, "My Windows 95 box" is running slow.

Bleah.

Hi,

I downloaded the Partner Pack because it is supposed to make a USB Pen drive auto-run but was disappointed to find that it didn't. I have tried it on two machines, one running Win XP Pro SP2 and the other Win 2000 SP4 with no success.

I have even altered a registry key (something about NoDriveTypeAutoRun) with no success......................
