Two weekends ago my team had to work late into the night to migrate an existing web application to new hardware...things were going pretty crazy and we were there waaaaaay to late in the night. At one point during the frustration with the server we were putting this app on, one of my team muttered something about "I bet that server just doesn't WANT to play nice" - so while he wasn't looking during a reboot I went into the BIOS on this Dell 2950 and changed the scrolling text on the server faceplate ......
Based on my last post about upgrading problems, I took my own advice and cleared out the bin directory for another project I'm upgrading and this time I ran into a fresh new error after an upgrade - a "MissingManifestResourceExc... Fired up the old browser and found this handy bit on MSDN which addresses the very problem I had. I'm starting to wonder if it's worth upgrading some of these old projects or if I should just start fresh. Anyone else have similar issues with upgrades or am I the only ......
The Rational Guide to SQL Server Notification Services By Joe Webb Published by Rational Press 2004 ISBN: 0-9726888-1-1 I recently received the task to get myself familiar with SQL Notification Services for a project I’m working on…basically our customer requested that we use SQL-NS and nobody on the team had experience with it so I got the task. I was kind of looking forward to it because it seems like cool technology but was kind of hesitant because there seems to be so little information out there ......
Get ready Charleston for another MSDN Event coming here on March 15th! Last November we had Russ Fustino out here for an MSDN Event and this time around it looks like Glen Gordon will be back. We're planning right now to adjust the meeting of the Greater Charleston .NET User Group to match the same day as the MSDN Event due to schedule conflicts at our hosting facility - so we may end up with a full day of .NET Awesomeness :) Go ahead and Register for the event now - we had a pretty full crowd last ......
Last night I was going through some older code I had written and upgrading it from VS 2003 to VS 2005. One particularly simple project was giving me some strange errors when I ran it after upgrading. This particular project is a password generator I had written originally in JavaScript, then VB6, then VS 2003 before finally last night upgrading it to VS 2005. The error I got when I ran the project was: “The Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. ......
SQL Guru’s can skip over this posting but for the other developers who don’t have really great SQL-Fu skills, hopefully this can help out. I ran into an issue today where we were having trouble with logins to a SQL 2005 database through code and it was driving me nuts because on the surface everything looked set up correctly. Part of the frustration on my part was also me still getting used to the way things look/feel inside SQL Management Studio versus the old Enterprise Manager – but that’s a whole ......
The Greater Charleston .NET User Group is meeting tomorrow night and my friend John Lunsford is giving a pretty cool presentation on Windows Presentation Foundation. For those who haven't seen him speak at a user group or Code Camp yet, John's a pretty talented presenter and with this particular topic he blew me away when I saw the code demo's he has lined up for this! Starts at 6PM, at Blackbaud on Daniel Island. Visit GCNUG for more info! ......
I won some fake snow in January's Community-Credit contest. Go me!
The ironic thing about this is I'm the one who suggested this as a "stupid prize" a couple months back! :)
Well those who have been around me at all since before Christmas know of the roller coaster of pain I've been feeling in my right shoulder - sudden onset with no known cause (no crash, injury, etc.) and when I went to the doc first I was first given some pain meds which made me pretty loopy (Lortab 5/500) and I couldn't stand being so darn loopy especially when it didn't kill the pain altogether. So next he gave me some giant Napercin pills which didn't feel much better. Finally I was sent off to ......
