I had just finished up with installing a new SharePoint 2013 web farm with Nintex workflow and activate the web apps in SharePoint Central Admin.

Also activated it in site collection and site feature but anytime i try to publish a workflow i get this error

"server was unable to process request failed to publish workflow"

Looked at the logs and was throwing some assembly errors.
Anyway after looking through the admin section in Central Admin i found > Nintex workflow Management > Web Application Activation

Using the Farm Installation account or another account with sufficient permissions, activate all web applications that use Nintex Workflow.

To activate web applications for Nintex Workflow
  1. On the Central Administration Home page, click Nintex Workflow Management.
  2. Click Web Application activation.
    The default web application name is automatically selected.
  3. To activate all web applications for Nintex Workflow, select the check box for All content web applications and then click Activate.
  4. To activate a subset of web applications for Nintex Workflow, select each web application and then click Activate; repeat until all desired web applications have been activated.
Hope this helps

I was trying yo setup MVC and VS 2012 on my Windows 8 PC.
But when i ran a sample MVC page i keep getting a blank page.
So I taught i haven't registered ASP.NET 4 in IIS so i wanted to to use the aspnet_regiis.exe from the cmd I later found out that you can't use that to register it anymore...its old schol now :(

Any for you to get it working just try any of these:

To install or uninstall ASP.NET 4.5 on Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012, use one of the following options:
  • Run the following command from an administrative command prompt: dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-ASPNET45
  • For Windows 8 client computers, turn on "IIS-ASPNET45" in "Turn Windows Features On/Off" under "Internet Information Services-> World Wide Web Services -> Application Development Features -> ASP.NET 4.5".
  • For Windows Server 2012 computers, enable "IIS-ASPNET45" using Server Manager, under "Web Server (IIS) -> Web Server ->Application Development -> ASP.NET 4.5".
The first one did the trick for me.

I came across these very good free sharepoint 2013 ebooks.

Thursday, September 19, 2013 #

I was working on a SharePoint 2010 intranet and the client suggested they were changing the URL for example from http://computername to http://intranet

Everything was changed with no issues only to find out that when users search in the site collection using the search box they get no result back but when they search in the sub-site or used the search web part they could get results back.

I spent sometime investigating to see what the problem was by first going to the SharePoint Central Admin to make sure the search service application was started successfully including all the services related to SharePoint search in the Administrative Tools > Services.

It all look good to me. Also checked the search service application again do make sure the server had crawl successfully.

But what I also notice is when i looked at the URL of the page that displays the result which is the osssearchresults.aspx is that it was both used when i perform a search in the site collection which wasn't working and also in the subsite and search webpart that worked.

So I decided it must be something related to the Alternate access mapping and looking at the settings i noticed the url that was set to crawl the content source was different what was set in the AAM as a default zone.

So immediately i amended it and tried the search BINGO it worked.

You can read more about it here

I was working on a data view web part recently and i had to filter the data based on dates.
Since the data source was web services i couldn't use the Offset which i blogged about earlier.

When using web services to pull data in sharepoint designer you would have to use xpath.
So for example this is the soap that populates the rows

<xsl:variable name="Rows" select="/soap:Envelope/soap:Body/ddw1:GetListItemsResponse/ddw1:GetListItemsResult/ddw1:listitems/rs:data/z:row/>

But you would need to add some predicate [] and filter the date nodes.
So you can do something like this (marked in red)

<xsl:variable name="Rows" select="/soap:Envelope/soap:Body/ddw1:GetListItemsResponse/ddw1:GetListItemsResult/ddw1:listitems/rs:data/z:row[ddwrt:FormatDateTime(string(@ows_Created),1033,'yyyyMMdd') >= ddwrt:FormatDateTime(string(substring-after($fd,'#')),1033,'yyyyMMdd')]"/>

For the filtering to work you need to have the date formatted above as yyyyMMdd.
One more thing you must have noticed is the $fd variable.
This variable is created by me creating a calculated column in the list so something like this [Created]-2

So basically that the xpath is doing is get me data only when the Created date is greater than or equal to the Created date -2 which is 2 date less than the created date.

Also not that when using web services in sharepoint designer and try to use the default filtering you won't get to see greater tha or less than in the option list comparison.:(

Hope this helps.

I was doing some design stuff today and i had issue with browser compatibility.
When i use e.g
    border-top:1px solid #aaa;
It works in FireFox and IE8 and above but couldn't get it to work with IE7.
It was driving me nuts!!!
But i came out with a solution and by adding
display: inline-block;
vertical-align : bottom;

It did the trick.
Hope that helps

I was setting up a search service application today and enabling search and crawling content sources.But i decided to test the "Web Analytics Web Part".
But when i added it i got the error:

There are no addresses available for this application

Check that you started the “Managed Metadata Web Service”. This can be found here: Central Admin > System Settings > Manage Services On ServerCheck that you started the “Managed Metadata Web Service”.

Hope that helps

I was working on some webpart in sharepoint designer 2010 and i decided to use the default custom paging.
But i noticed the previous link page isn't working it basicalling just takes me back to the start page of the list and not the previous page after a good look i noticed micosoft is using "history.back()" which is suppose to work but it doesn't work well for paged data.

Anyway before i started further investigation i found Hani Amr's solution at the right time and that did the trick.
Hope that helps

I have been thinking for a while how i can reuse my code when building custom dataview webparts in sharepoint designer 2010.
So i decided to use the XslLink which is one of the properties when you edit a sharepoint webpart.
I started by creating a xsl file that i can use but after adding the link to the file like so:

I get the error : This web part does not have a valid XSLT stylesheet: There is no XSL property available for presenting the data.

So after some debugging i noticed it was the directory path for the link to the XSL style shee gets broken.
So i changed it to the full URL http://mysite/sites/server/mycustomtemplate.xsl it works

Just a quick one.
I was trying to add and deploy a WSP file.Both went well until i tried adding the webpart and i get the error

Web Part Error: No available sandboxed code execution server could be found.

After doing some joggling around i came to know i had to start the

Solution:You need to start the SharePoint Foundation Sandbox Code Service service instance from services on server..
This has to be done in the SP 2010 Central Admin > App Management > Service Apps > Manage Services on Server.

Hope this helps

**If you are unlucky and do get Web Part Error: The request could not be completed because the specified solution was not found.

Solution: Just retract the solution remove it and then add it back.(But make sure you start the right services though before adding the webpart)
