Technically Speaking All in on IT

I love the built-in RSS features of Outlook 12. However, the specifics seem a little blurry. Perhaps I am not looking in the right place. Perhaps it is just a technical beta! I can import an OPML file; but beyond that I don't see much or any customization. How often feeds are checked, how many to keep, etc. Hopefully more features, customization, etc. will be added as we move through the beta process. I would like to see:

  • The ability to control some things globally via a RSS tab in TOOLS > OPTIONS like how often to update feeds.
  • The ability to control other things on a per-feed (per folder) basis.
  • A hot-key to mark all posts in a feed read.
  • The ability to post to my blog (from feeds in Outlook) from Outlook.

And, in another sign of the apocalypse, only Robert Scoble’s feed returns all his items as unread each time it checks for new posts. <heh>

You aren't the only one... but don't hold your breath. Other than importing your stuff, there's not much in the way of feed management. Feeds are treated as email accounts, do you can setup a specific SEND/RECEIVE group to schedule specific feeds. What's really frustrating to me is the lack of folder management like grouping and such. Even if your OPML is categorized, O12 won't import your groupings... quite frustrating IMHO.
