The Life and Times of a Dev Yes, we're really that weird

The media can't get enough of Apple, and frankly, I'm sick of it.  Last year, Apple sold 3.7 million iPhones worldwide, and the press (particularly the really awful site) can't get enough of them.  That sounds like a lot of phones, until you realize that the leading seller of phones, Nokia, sold 111 million phones IN THE THIRD QUARTER ALONE!  The total global market was 1.12 billion units, giving Apple a whopping .33 percent market share.  Now granted, Apple didn't sell the phones the entire year, just half the year.  So we can double it and come up with a market share of .66 percent.

Wow, they captured the cell phone market. . .

I know, I know, this is the "Smart" cell phone market, and I guess if they are going after a niche, they probably did pretty well, but do you honestly think that other vendors will sit on their tails?

Obviously, I'm not the only one to notice--Apple's stock price has taken a hit recently, and I've got to think that it reflects the reality of the Mac Air being a flop and the IPhone not really being that much of a market changer.

Flame away.
