The new feature that allows Windows Live Messenger Beta users to connect directly to Yahoo! Messenger users is disappointing.

The main reason is that the new feature will only work if your Yahoo! Messenger friends are running the latest beta version

Cosidering how bad the current Yahoo! Messenger 8 Beta version is, it's unlikely that many people will use it anytime soon. So it's unlikely any of my Y!M contacts will be available to me through the superior Windows Live Messenger. It's as if the lame Yahoo! Messenger just refuses to let go and allow other, better IMs to take over.

I wonder why it has to be this way? I would have thought connectivity needs to acheived at the server level, rather than at the client software level.

Try using Trilian Basic 3. It is free and uses IRC, AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo.

Yap, trilian rules! I'm already using it from about 4-5 months.

Yep. Your comments drove me to give Trillian another go and I like it!

The interface in 3 is greatly improved. The connectivity is much faster and stabler than in previous versions.

I think I'm going to dedicate a post to it soon.
