[Update 3rd Sep 2005 1629 IST (GMT +0530 hrs): Yahoo no longer has $1.99 domain registration offer.]

It is really a exciting day for me! you see, it all started when I heard about yahoo offering domain registration for $1.99  (info from Sören 'chucker' Kuklau), I was very excited and opted to the yahoo page for registering my wanted domain name. After searching through the domain availability and getting over the fact that the .com version has already been taken, I choose .net tld and opted to book it for 5 years. This took me to Yahoo wallet, which asks for the CC details which I was more than happy to provide, but only if yahoo is ready to proceed further my day would have been more happier.

To clarify, there isn't any problem with the card (as I have purchased products online before and also yahoo does not complain about the card) but the only issue is that I really don't know what the issue is!

Well, let me explain in more detail now, once you reach the CC section and provide your information and press the "Continue" button all you get is a refreshed screen of the CC entry page! No errors, no information why I am still stuck there, but simply it does not proceed further. To make sure that I am able to get error message I wantedly emptied some mandatory fields and pressed continue for which there was a yellow colored error message box shown by yahoo, but when all are filled and ready it just simply doesn't proceed further.

After digging around for 10 min's, I found that the 'State' drop down list was showing US based states instead of India based states. Well, I tried

  • changing to a different country and then back to India
  • opened the wallet in different browsers (opera, IE, FF, Netscape)
  • cleared my cookies / temp internet files and such and did the above two points again

Finally I went to Yahoo India and searched for wallet service localized for that region, but couldn't find any and now wondering what other options I have.

I personally think small(?) hitches like this are the ones which makes the difference in experience between service which attracts users to use it and a service which forces a user to use it because he/she does not have any other option other than to compromise on comfortability for getting what he/she wants.

Finally, as of now I am planning to drop this non-ending madness to try to figure out a way and make use of godaddy. My only disadvantage would be that I could have booked the same domain for 5 years instead of less than that, if only yahoo had worked!

I am having the same problem as the first poster, I cannot seem to get past step 2 for yahoo wallet sign up. Everytime I enter all my information and CC and hit continue the page just refreshes. I emailed Yahoo customer service and got a reply from them 1 MONTH later, thats right 1 month not to mention their reply was not helpful in the least, they sent me a reply about billing, someting totally irrelevant. I seriously don't know how this company is as big as it is with this lack of service. They just lost another potential customer.

Just like to say that I have had the EXACT same problem registering with Yahoo Wallet. I've emailed customer service 3 times. The first reply was to delete my cookies. The second was a reply to THEIR email--and it BOUNCED. I'm awaiting the results of the third email, but I suspect it won't be much help. This is not a difficult technology to get right.

Wow, I just came across this site. So I'm not the only one! It's a relief that other people are having this problem with Yahoo Wallet!

Are you all getting this error when logging into http://wallet.yahoo.com?

============================================
There is a temporary problem with your account.

We are working to resolve it. Please try again in one business day.
============================================

Btw, please include that message anytime you refer to this problem so that the page turns up in Google searches.

Yup, I originally got the same response from their support escalations department "tell your browser to accept Yahoo cookies". Of course I accept Yahoo.com cookies.

I just got off another 1.5 hour phone call with Yahoo Support and it is in their "tier 3" department, which I think is engineering.

Anyway, I recommend everyone call Yahoo Support at 866-800-8092, press 2 for billing, then 2, then 1. Tell them the exact error, get a case #, and don't accept the lame recommendations that this is a temporary security block or a problem with cookies.

Maybe the more people that report the exact same problem, the better chance Yahoo will fix it.

I just can't believe I am having to work so hard to get Yahoo to accept my credit card payment. No wonder google is kicking their ass -- in less than 10 years Yahoo has become a bureaucracy that it takes most businesses 30 years to achieve.

Btw, I tried resetting my Yahoo Security Key by telling it that I forgot it, but it will not email me my "One Time Security Key" so that I can reset it (via bills.yahoo.com). Tried different email accounts.

I am most annoyed...does anyone know how I go about getting in touch with Yahoo wallet? Someone has fraudulently used my card here making it a doddle for them to purchse items online!!! Not amused in the slightest!

Don't know what happened, never did get an email from Yahoo Support, but I noticed today that I can finally log into Wallet.

This has been probably the worst customer service experience I've had. I can't believe I had to go through three escalations and cases (3111707, 3193519, 3220020) to make Yahoo let me pay for service.

Before Yahoo "automatically" sign me in the damn "Yahoo! Wallet" I could use my Discover Card to purchase from Yahoo without any problem. Each time when I make any purchase with Discover credit card the card company will generate a secure credit number for me to make a purchase which means each time my credit card number will be different than last time. Now the "Yahoo! Wallet" stores my old credit card number therefore when I type my card number on Yahoo information sheet it will show me that I had a wrong credit card information! I had tried many time to access the damn "Yahoo! Wallet" and never could go to that main page! There is no chance for me to have a tiny peep on the "Yahoo! Wallet" main page so how can I "login" my "Yahoo! Wallet"!

I tried to upgrade my Flickr account with yahoo and it billed me 8 TIMES. I tried searching their various "help" areas but found neither phone numbers nor directions to assist me with such an issue. I did find one internal phone number for an unrelated help desk and left my indicative information and a brief message. I also contacted my Debit Card company and discussed possible Fraud against my Debit Card. Whatever happens do call your Card Company and discuss options with them.

Poster`s before me, I too have been charged $1.00 by Yahoo wallet for which I had no say. BUT, as I was reading this on my account spreadsheet, I realized there is also a charge to PHONE-CARD-PIN.COM BRIGHTON MA for $47.50 on the same day. Now I have to contact them and see what the hell that`s about.
Be advised, I would keep my eyes on my account if I were you.

Yahoo wallet is the most frustrating piece of garbage I've ever dealt with. Can't believe those morons at Yahoo get away with such horrendous customer service. Somebody show me where the link to "delete wallet" is, if I had a billion dollars I would give it to you.

I agree - I have been trying to PURCHASE stat-tracker for fantasy football for 3 days now, and have sent numerous emails about the technical issues with wallet (which I would prefer not to have but unfortunately this is the ONLY way to pay for some of the services). I found a toll-free customer service number online, and was actually able to get thru to a rep who advised me that they were very aware of the problem and that the estimated time for a fix would be this afternoon at ...er... approximately 6 hours ago. Still no luck. Wondering how on earth such a huge org cannot figure out how to fix this BS.

OMG, I am a web developer and user experience specialist and I could not agree more. I tried with both IE and Firefox and everything works except the CONTINUE button to process the payment - OR IS IT PROCESSING? based on some of these posts I better go check my credit card statements. I've been doing this work since 1996 and I cannot believe Yahoo would not test this out, they are either ripping people off or they are losing tons of revenue because a button will not work. This is not even about user experience this is quality assurance which usually does not cost as much as UX, and it's EVERYTHING TO DO with customer experience, Yahoo has been terrible at this, when I've had trouble with my email it was like I need to call a Private Investigator to find someone to help me, what is unacceptable is that companies that post a fraction of Yahoo's revenue have Live Help on their site!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I guess I see why they are hurting and laying off people, its not just the stock market, Google has them by the boot straps, enjoy the ride DOWN YAHOO~!

do not use wallet. the Commonwealth Bank has been investigating fraud with the application using details snd canvasing card numbers practice. The bank cancelled then re issued my cards to halt the process. Funny thing is , until the bank rang me, I had no idea about this 'wallet' thingy. how did they get my credit details?
