Today I started messing with the Mobile Client Software Factory. It has a lot of potential and is backed by the right people so I thought it could come in very handy. I'm new to PPC development and recently got handed an app to build upon and improve, the initial developer being an offshore developer. Being a web developer used to such luxuries as an ORM, full API access on things such as UI controls and ADO when needed, it came as a bit of a shocker to discover the compact framework really is compact! Sure we could just point our ORM at the datamodel hosted on the PPCs SQL Server CE, but we need to do some heavy synchronisation and ORM objects tend to be a bit on the heavy side. All that asside, I'm hoping this framework can come to the rescue and I'm just looking at how the whole shiznit pulls together and ways that it can help in our projects. The first obstacle I had to overcome and I'm not even sure it's an obstacle that many people will have to overcome but I thought I'd share the fix with the world anyway: When loading up the code for the framework, I got a "The project could not be opened because it refers to a device platform that does not exist in your datastore." error. This was because the Application Data\Microsoft\corecon folder didn't exist in my documents and settings folder. To fix this, copy the All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\corecon directory into your Application Data\Microsoft directory. I will be posting more PPC hints as I learn them! w:// Posted on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 1:10 PM PPC Stuff | Back to top
