Wil Peck Experience is something you get right after you need it.

Yesterday I started getting Windows Activation errors in the system tray within a Windows Server 2008 development environment I recently setup.  The error displayed from the system tray indicated something about a Key Management Server which then lead me to System Center Operations Manager.  As I started digging around, the task of setting all this stuff up became more daunting, all I really wanted to do was to activate my valid copy of Windows Server 2008.

Luckily as outlined here[^] there is an alternative to setting up SCOM and KMS.  Using slmgr.vbs, a valid product key and a little bit of patience activation is a snap.
